PAUL’S PRECISION
PART IV

Greetings Watchers!

We are beginning to see the reality of the Rapture from the way Paul taught it throughout the years to every Church, and how he used it to reassure them about his teaching, that it was the same as before, and that they had to stay strong in that knowledge.

Also that because they had that knowledge, he called them children of the day and of the light, and urged them to put on the full armor of God and Watch. Then Warn the sleepyheads, and then rejoice together in your understanding, or seeing as the case might be.

But no where else does he get as specific as he does, when he addresses the problem with the Thessalonians who are now thinking that they are in the Great Tribulation, and this, just shortly after he had written to them addressing their concerns about their dead friends and relatives, which is where he reassured them of those dead in Christ that will rise.

The entire second chapter of the II Thessalonians is about the gathering together, the rapture.

All of the first chapter of this letter is an overview of tribulation and how God is prepared to handle those (II Thess.1:8) . . .who know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. His recompense to them that trouble you. (1:6)

Then Paul goes on to Beseech them in chapter 2. The tone of that word, beseech, which means to strongly urge, almost sounds like he’s saying, “come on you guys, listen up! I’ve told you all this before, so now, I’m begging you, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him at the Rapture, that you don’t get so shook up every time that you hear somebody who comes around saying that I sent them to tell you different than I already told you about the Great Tribulation”.

“Now, I mean, don’t let anybody, hear what I said, anybody, deceive you, by any means, and I mean, any means, ever again, because the Lord can’t return until after we depart (aposticia*), after which that false deliverer will be revealed, that old son of the devil; You know, the guy I told you about who is against everything about God, and who will sit in the temple of God, and call himself god.”

“So, now you know, for sure, what’s holding him back until it’s his time to be revealed.”

“The hidden evil in him is already at work, but the body that is now restraining him, will continue to restrain him, until that body is taken out of the way. And then after that, the false deliverer will be destroyed by the brightness of the return of Jesus.”

And when Jesus return in brightness, we, the redeemed of all ages, will be with Him!

Now, the understanding of this entire chapter hangs on one word; Aposticia. Used in verse three, and translated “falling away”, the translators choose to use one of it’s meanings that simply does not fit the precision standard of Paul’s teaching.

Although at the time of the end, there may be a “falling away” from the word, which is a very common occurrence that has been happening throughout time, and will continue to do so, but, it’s not the understanding that Paul meant from the context of the entire chapter. The context is about the gathering together unto Him, the departure (Aposticia), being taken out of the way, being the restrainer, and understanding why it’s all so.

So, once again, the precision of Paul is seen in the chapter as he again explains to the Thessalonians about the end times. In the remainder of the chapter he describes with precision, and in great prose, the outcome of the wicked and the reward for faithful.

Again it is confirmed that Paul taught in person as well as the letters, which were only instruments of reassurance of prior teaching, in verse 15. The Church at Thessalonica was begun on Paul’s second missionary journey in c A.D. 49 – 52, and this letter is written in c late A.D. 51.

My point is that Paul went out doing missionary work among people who never heard of his Messiah and the meaning of His death and resurrection. These were the first converts and Paul taught them exhaustively. Probably too much all at once. So they had questions, and concerns about the important things to them, and one of those concerns was the question of death and resurrection and rapture.

He had taught it all, because it was part and parcel to the teaching of the Messiah. The letters only reinforced his prior words, and we get that same reassurances in this day, because we are the extension of those first converts.

We just happen to be living in the time when the end time part of Paul’s message to them is finally relevant. That time was sealed in the events of the prophecy of Daniel. So, the meaning and understanding of what Paul taught the first converts about the end time has reached it’s day, as the events of Daniel are clearly being watched on the present day stage of history.

What Paul’s precision shows us, in every case, is that all the way back to the beginning, he taught the rapture and the end times, and that we need to watch for the dead in Christ to rise in Jerusalem, as the sign of it’s time. To think other than that has no basis in his teachings.

So, in the words of Paul himself, the founding missionary of the Body of Christ on earth, “let no man deceive you, by any means”, that the day of the Lord shall arrive before our departure in the gathering together unto Him, that removes the restraining force that is holding back the false deliverer of the Jews from being revealed. Alleluia!

Next class we are going to explore God’s unique use of “substance and shadow”, as Paul put it, and trace the promises of God to the Jews right into the future of the Church.
