PAUL AND HIS PRECISION
Greetings Watchers! The object of this series on the precision of the Apostle Paul in his teaching is to lead the reader to an understanding of the simplicity of the message concerning the rising of the dead in Christ and the rapture of the church. I believe the key lies in realizing that these letters only are reminders of the teaching that they had already received. And from which ever Church it was that was having difficulty with the teaching on the return of the Lord, he quenched the fire, as it were, with renewed understandings of prior learning. And since we know that Paul only taught one message, we know that he taught it to everyone. The Thessalonians had already been taught the lesson. They understood and were reassured by the message, because it was a renewal of the teaching they had already received. So his letters are precise and to the point. In A.D. 61, when he writes to the Colossians, he again is putting out fires, and uses the same method with them. Making key statements that aid in putting down a heresy, because they were reminders of the original teaching. And the precision with which he speaks to them needs no voluminous explanations. They understood what he meant. Back in the year, circa Spring, A.D. 55, Paul wrote to correct some problems with the first letter to the Corinthians. He answers concerns about Christian marriage, liberty, worship, and spiritual gifts, and finally, his address of the resurrection is directed to certain Greeks in the assembly who had problems with the doctrine of the bodily resurrection. Again, as before, he is renewing his teaching. It’s a doctrinal matter that is at stake here. They had to have heard the teaching in order to have a problem with it. I cite you Chapter 15: “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also you have received, and wherein ye stand”. Then he speaks of the resurrection, and the ascension/rapture, and Paul’s witness to the things he already had taught is mesmerizing! v. 51: Behold, I show you a mystery! What’s a mystery? Paul defined it to the Ephesians. He said that a Mystery is something hidden in the mind of God, and cannot be known unless it’s revealed by God. Now Paul is saying that he is revealing a Mystery! Heretofore unknown! Something God had revealed to him! And the method of the Rapture, that they already knew about, from the prior teaching, is now revealed. The fact that there is a rapture was explained as a reminder teaching to the Thessalonians way back in A.D. 51. And at that same time, Paul was reminding them that they had to watch for the end times, as we demonstrated in the previous class. Now, with the revelation of the Mystery of the Rapture, which was how it would happen, the Church would know what to expect when the time came. And that time would be when the trumpet sounds, and the dead rise incorruptible, and then we, the living, shall be changed. But the timing was still locked up, awaiting the time when Daniel’s prophecy was being clearly seen on the stage of history. That story is consistent with the story he told the Thessalonians. The dead in Christ rise first, then we which are alive and remain, etc. The new information is the being changed in the twinkling of and eye. Putting on incorruption and immortality, which the dead that rose were raised with. Again, the precision of his words does not allow for misunderstanding, and the close association of what he taught three different churches at separate times demonstrates that the teaching on the Rapture, or catching away, had all been done before to all of them. In our next class we will approach the timing of the rapture in relation to Paul’s precision when he addresses the Thessalonians for the second time about this subject. But first, I want to hear from you. Do you want to hear this teaching, or am I boring you? chn@chn-net.com write me now – let me know if I have a class or not for this subject.
