I have never written a piece on Preterism, because what I teach is at the other end of the spectrum, and I donít think about it much.
But over the last couple of weeks, I have received and extraordinary amount of mail with questions concerning it, so I began to think about it, and selected the following letter to answer in this forum to pass along my thoughts.
It turned into a good teaching on what is real about the end times.
I hope you enjoy it.
I donít know if this is the proper channel to go through to contact you brother Sal, but I have a question. Lets humor the idea that everything already happened in 70 A.D.(anything can be possible), now if thatís the case, doesn't it say that after Jesus comes back to reign for a thousand years that after that time the beast will be set loose again to test the souls of men? Couldn't that be this time, I'm not saying I believe it, it just raises some curiosity
Well, if that were so, then we are living in the "short space" that the devil will be loosed from the pit prior to God destroying him.
That means that over the past 2,000 years historians missed everything that happened that Revelation calls for. For some reason they forgot to keep a record of it.
That means that the dead already rose and went to heaven. I guess there weren't very many who made it, because there is no record of it, yet history didn't miss any of the other happenings since Christ's death. I wonder how they missed seeing and reporting on the Great Tribulation.
Oh, and when did we repair all the damage to the earth that is done to it during the tribulation? We have had 1933 years to patch it up, but where is the record of it.
How come there is no monument in Megiddo that the Jews have to come up to on the feast of Tabernacles every year for a 1000 years?
Why aren't the Jews living in the Kingdom of God on earth as they would be after the Tribulation?
If it all happened in AD 70, then the timing in history would be as follows:
Jesus dies: AD 33.
AD 70 ended the 6000 years, and 1070 ended the 7000 years, and then the933 years while Satan is out of the pit, but while Jesus and Body are still ruling = 7,933 years.
Now, my question is: What relevancy is the Church during this 933 year period. Jesus becomes the proclaimed Messiah in AD 33, He got rejected by His own people for whom He came; God reveals the Body to Paul who begins evangelize circa AD 49-51, and by AD 70, the Body is Raptured, so the Church is gone, and it's age is over; The Jews made peace and then suffered the Great Tribulation, and the war is over; Christ and the Body are ruling God's Kingdom on earth; The millennial rule ends in AD 1070, and now we get 933 + years of the devil loosed again on earth to date. That requires that the Church age reopens in AD 1070. When did the Church age that we are experiencing at present begin again, and to whom was it revealed? That had to have been done in AD 1070. Where is the record of it.
Where is the record of a war fought in circa AD 70 that is equal to what is described and known as the battle of Armageddon?
My next question is: Where is the temple that was built during the Millennium that Christ ruled from?
Why aren't the Jews still worshiping in there? How did the historians overlook reporting it's destruction and the subsequent Diaspora? That would certainly be a noteworthy event in history.
I don't know, but I just can't even humor such a thought. It is too far from any reality that history has presented us with as our recent past. Well, I hope you found my little fast forward through history as interesting and thought provoking as was your concern for the Preteristís position.
Thanks for listening and God bless.
I know that's it's interesting stuff and fun to speculate what the future holds, but I am a real serious student of this stuff, and getting off on tangents like Preterism does as much good as trying to reason with the people who belong to the flat earth society. Evidence means nothing to them.
So I stick to the scripture about the end times, and spy on the stage of history for the prophesied events to take place. If we are in the end times, they will be clearly visible and easy to see for those who know where to watch, what to watch for, and why you are watching there to see it.
God's Word through the Apostle Paul tells us to Watch, so we can see the day of our redemption come to pass. Warn, those who do not see it and make them aware of it, and finally, rejoice together as you watch the day come to pass. Now that seems easy enough to do, so whatís the restraining force? Why doesnít the Christian world do that? Why itís TRADITION of course! Itís mind blowing how the simplest of truths are distorted and even reversed by the man conceived traditions that God despises with His entire being. Those traditions, Jesus said, that makes VOID the Word of God.
That's our message from the Scripture about the end times for the Church. It would be very hard to believe that Paul would have taught the first coverts to Watch for something that they wouldnít clearly see. One has to realize that Paul had already taught them what it was to watch for, so that answer has to be there, in his teaching, and it is.
So how can this all be speculation on my part, as some have claimed? I have to answer that it's not, because I am not making any speculations. I am simply pointing out what Paul taught concerning these end days, and then pointing at the events of history that are fulfilling his words. How is that speculation? Thatís called chronicling Ė keeping a historical record.
God said that at the time Daniel was unsealed there would be increased knowledge. That knowledge includes the understandings we get as we see the events taking place on the stage of history. Years ago we could not name the players and see the drama that is taking place today. But, today we can identify every player, see every maneuver, and be aware of how the prophetic events are coming to pass in real time.
And, since Scripture precisely spells out the ending, we can see exactly how the players are performing to that ending. And, if you watch it from far enough back, you can actually see the puzzle coming together, to form the tapestry, that God wove before the foundation of the world. Itís really worth seeing. Iím so pleased to present you with this view.
God has given us so much knowledge about the end times and His plan for us, that it could only be missed by those who are steeped in the false tradition that you can't know the day or the hour of the Rapture. They will miss the joy God has scheduled for the end times. There must be joy, or God would not have told us to Rejoice at this time.
And of all the things to miss in your life! Think of it - this will only be seen once in history, and God invited you to have a front row seat - you can be aware of when the dead in Christ rise, you can see it coming and count down the days til your redemption, because itís all there. Paulís teaching is there and itís precise. But by our traditions we make void that word of God, so instead of rejoicing, you get caught looking, like the 5 brides who were out trying to find an oil station open in the middle of the night, and you miss the greatest show of all time. What a revolting thought!
Simply by disregarding a false tradition, and looking past it, the truth of it unfolds and lays bare the tapestry that God has left for our illumination and edification.
That's why I don't have to make any claims. I'm only the messenger, not the message. God already told the story. It's all there. And, I'm not interpreting anything, I'm only pointing it out. It says what it says to everyone alike.
And then when you look at the prophecy fulfilling history that is made as time passes from day to day during the past few years, you can clearly see Daniel's time is here. Now, that cannot be ignored by people who are watching and see it. We have a duty as Children of the day and the light. We have Watched, and we have seen; now our duty is to Warn and Rejoice together as the day of our redemption draws near.
Awareness causes God to begins stirring from within and gets thought processes working, and as they watch, God is moving in them and shining the light of truth on what they see. And the Devil doesn't want that to get around very much. So the myopia that keeps the truth hidden is caused by the very traditions that Jesus condemned. What irony! What drama!
Can you see how blessed we are? Chosen to be Godís witness to the dead in Christ rising on First Fruits. Chosen to be the light bearers to the sleeping Church. Isnít that the most exciting thing that could ever happen to any of us?
